In the spirit of a new year and experimentation, I have set up a facebook page for Museum Planning –

Interested to see how much traffic such a site would generate. If you like the page please click the “like” button
In December I hired a consultant to review the museumplanner.org blog and make recommendations. To my surprise, museumplanner.org is the world’s most visited website on museum planning. An average of sixty-five people visit the website a day. Most people land on the website googling derivatives of “museum plan”.
After three years of blogging, my process;
1. Generate content using Google Docs and post on museumplanner.org
2. Upload videos to Youtube and photos to Picassa
3. Promote and share the content and news through Twitter and Facebook
4. Create and track discussions with Disqus
5. Use a website (www.walhimer.com) as a resource for “stable” content
6. Use Constant Contact to send email newsletters
7. Use Google Analytics and facebook Post Insights to check usage and reactions to posted content
8. Use Linkedin to keep in touch
9. Use Linkedin Groups to share thoughts and ask questions
10. Use Google Alerts to search for relevant news
Museum Social Media 101
Any museum could use the same process;
1. Identify your key words. Be specific, use Google Ad Words to learn about words that will drive visitors to your website
2. Generate content related to your keywords
3. Promote your content
4. Track your website visitors and learn what they want from the website
